Richard Mullane studied Art History before crossing over into film making in 2014. He has evolved an aesthetic documentary style exploring hidden character journeys, with credits including The Horse Whisperer (2016) and Morbidelli Rising (2018) charting the rookie MotoGP season of Valentino Rossi protege Franco Morbidelli.

The origins of Deep Breath are personal: Richard had an uncle, a North Sea Commercial Diver, who went down for a routine dive one day in the 1970s and never returned. The mystery of this loss led Richard to a fascination with our explorations of the deep and the merits of the joys and dangers it presents. Deep Breath is his first independent feature documentary.
